Clif Family Winery Earns California Green Medal Award for Community

April 7, 2020 – The Wine Institute announced the sixth annual Green Medal awards and honored Clif Family with the distinction in Community. The award is presented by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, California Association of Winegrape Growers, Wine Institute, Lodi Winegrape Commission, Napa Valley Vintners, Sonoma County Winegrowers and Vineyard Team. The California Green Medals recognize the leadership of wineries and vineyards committed to sustainability. The Green Medal for Community is given to the vineyard or winery that is a Good Neighbor & Employer using the most innovative practices that enhance relations with employees, neighbors and/or communities.

Our approach to sustainability has always been to build a company that sustains and regenerates its people, the planet and its community, while creating engaging food and wine brands that sell, and building a successful profitable business. Every decision made is aimed at achieving our Five Aspirations, dedicated to business, brands, people, community and planet.

Linzi Gay, Clif Family general manager explains, “We’re thrilled to be recognized with this award from the prestigious Green Medal panel. Each member of our team plays an important role in shaping our community, whether in our Tasting Room, Food Truck, offices or the Clif Family Farm. She continued to say that “We believe supporting our community is an essential piece of sustainability and core to our business.”

In addition to a Napa Green certification, our achievements in sustainability include practices to support the local community through philanthropy, community service and many other activities. In 2019, we supported 344 different charities through product and time donations. We also donated 20% of proceeds to local non-profits through our Sip and Support program, which began in 2013. We close the business one day/year for community service, and the staff has served 950 volunteer hours. In addition, we offer employees generous benefits (medical/dental/vision, an Employee Assistance Program, life insurance, continuing education) in addition to more unusual opportunities such as a $75 wellness stipend per month, $100 reimbursement for National Parks Passes and annual performance bonuses measured against our Five Aspirations. Equally important is our approach to the stewardship of natural resources, including conservation of water, biodiversity, energy and soil, as well as the investment in renewable energy.

The Clif Family team will receive the Green Medal Award in Community during a ceremony at the California State Capitol in Sacramento in the coming months. For more information on sustainability at Clif Family visit
